Whitehorse Towers is located in the heart of Box Hill and comprises luxury apartments, an Art Series Hotel, retail and restaurant tenancies, gymnasium and office spaces. The Victorian Government has designated Box Hill as a place of State Strategic Significance for delivering jobs, investment and productivity, both as a Metropolitan Activity Centre and a Health/Education precinct.
The landmark design comprises two towers of 36 and 26 levels with a children’s play area complete with equipment on the top of the podium level. The development accommodates over 500 dwellings and 100 serviced apartments with ground floor retail, office and restaurant tenancies.
With an array of sustainable transport options, including a major public transport hub of train, tram and bus facilities, on-site car share vehicles and an abundance of bicycle parking the site provides a prime opportunity to encourage a mode shift away from the private motor vehicle. The local conveniences of cafés, restaurants, shops, medical services, places of education and recreational land uses are all at the site’s doorstep.
We were involved in an extensive design process with the project team that determined the appropriate car and bicycle parking provision for such a site, the access strategy, an efficient parking layout, loading and waste management arrangements, pedestrian connectivity on the ground floor and sustainable transport options. Our collaborative approach with the authorities and project team resulted in all the traffic and transport related issues being resolved to maximise the site opportunities and to meet local planning objectives.
Our works include the preparation of a traffic and transport impact assessment, green travel plan, car parking management plan and direct consultation with Council and VicRoads.
